Our Team 

Bay Colony Capital was formed by Mark Haley in Boston, MA and Jim Croop in Rochester, NY to bring a wider range of services and market access to their middle market and lower middle market clients. Bay Colony is structured to be responsive to these companies. With expansion in Pittsburgh, PA Bay Colony's Northeast locations still allow the team to work on transactions anywhere in the country. The Bay Colony senior level team members bios are listed below:

Jim Croop - Rochester, NY - Co-Founder of Bay Colony Capital, LLC. Jim is the former Managing Director of Artisan Investment Banking in Rochester, NY. Jim formed Artisan, a boutique investment banking firm after a successful tenure at Argilus Investment Banking. Artisan has conducted several early-stage capital transactions, as well as sell-side and strategic advisory services to a number of firms. Jim’s prior experience included transactions which ranged from the sale of a multi-outlet automotive parts retail chain to a national competitor, to debt-restructuring for an electronics manufacturing facility and a metal distribution firm, subsequently sold to a national competitor. Jim has worked on transactions in regions from NY to Alabama, North Carolina and Texas, as well as in Canada, South Korea and China. Prior to joining Argilus, Jim worked with ValuQuest Business Appraisals at Bonadio & Co., LLP (the largest independent accounting firm in NYS outside of NYC) conducting business valuation studies for a variety of industries. He also did private consulting for an international payroll firm located in NY and Monterrey, Mexico. Jim was the CFO at the Center for Governmental Research, a management consulting firm for 14 years. His responsibilities included productivity and economic analysis, forecasting, budgeting, project management as well as HR and computer network responsibilities. Jim also conducted financial research on a number of studies. Jim received his BS from St. John Fisher College and his MBA from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester. Jim maintains both Series79, 7 & 63 securities licenses.

Mark Haley - Boston, MA Co-Founder and Managing Director of Bay Colony Capital, LLC.  Mark has over twenty years experience in the financial services industry with sixteen of those years in corporate finance. Before founding Bay Colony, Mark was Director of Marketing and Business Development at Gagnon Capital Advisors in Boston, a capital advisory firm that provided M&A advisory, corporate finance, as well as restructuring services to middle market companies. A Boston native, he spent ten years in Los Angeles in business development roles for the middle market lending groups at Wells Fargo Bank and Union Bank of California. After leaving Los Angeles, Mark was in New York City where he was a business development officer for The Marwood Group, a placement agent that represented institutional money managers seeking to manage public pension funds. Mark is a Registered Representative and holds Series 79, 7 & 63 licenses with a BA from Union College in Schenectady, NY where he was captain of the varsity ice hockey team.

Guy Simmons - Boston, MA - As a Senior Advisor, Guy brings extensive experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Working closely in long term relationships with leading providers of equity, mezzanine, and debt capital, he has provided financing for numerous successful private and public companies including General Nutrition Company, Snapple Beverage, Sperry Corporation, Timberland Company, regional soft drink bottlers, Micro Dental, and many other companies in the retail, distribution, service, and manufacturing industries. His career has included being an officer at leading financial institutions including Prudential Insurance, Westinghouse Financial, Nations Bank, Wachovia Bank, and BNY Mellon. He has been responsible for investments in the funds of leading private equity investors including Thomas H Lee Company, Berkshire Partners, Riverside Partners, Saugatuck Capital, and J.W. Childs Associates.

Guy spent six years of active and twenty-one years of reserve duty in the United States Navy. He served in Vietnam and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Guy holds a BA from Columbia College and an MBA from Columbia Graduate School of Business.

K. Tibor Toth - Boston, MA - Tibor has 18 years of industry experience.  Along with his role as a Senior Advisor at Bay Colony Capital, Tibor is also  an Advisory Board member for Harken Capital Advisers (a fund placement agent), a Board member for ACG Boston, and an advisor to Peak Ridge Capital. 

Tibor was previously a Managing Director in Babson Capital Management's Mezzanine & Private Equity Group.  Prior to joining Babson in 2006, Tibor was a Principal at Ascent Venture Partners and previously held positions at Lee Capital Holdings as a Vice President, at Berkshire Partners as an Associate and at Drexel Burnham Lambert as a corporate finance analyst.  

He holds an S.B. in Management Science from MIT, an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and an M.E.M. in Manufacturing Engineering from the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. 

John Scanlon - Rochester, NY - John is experienced in structuring and negotiating sell side and buy side transactions, debt restructuring and capital raising activities. John brings years of experience in corporate financial analysis and has worked extensively with entrepreneurs and senior managers from private companies, public companies, and divisions of public companies throughout the northeastern and southern United States. John is highly skilled in financial modeling and strategic planning. In addition to his transactional work John was the President and CEO of Windsor Manufacturing Co., Inc., a western New York contract electronics manufacturing company. While at Windsor Manufacturing, he led the company to profitability and renewed growth through cost reductions, process improvements, cultural changes, and the development of a dynamic management team. John received a BS in Accounting from LeMoyne College and an MBA from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester.

Marina Weston - Boston, MA - Marina is an experienced analyst in the investment industry and is currently focusing on research for alternative energy and green investment projects. Marina began her career in Europe and worked at Hansabank - Latvia before she moved to the U.S. In Boston, Marina worked in the alternative investment group at State Street Corporation. Her interest in environmental protection and alternative investments led her to focus on environmentally friendly investments. Marina will be lending her expertise to Bay Colony’s alternative energy and green tech clients. Marina’s analytical expertise and international experience brings additional depth to Bay Colony.

Marina is an active member of the investment community and is a Board Member of several organizations. She holds a Masters degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance and a Professional Banker Degree from Latvian University. Marina is fluent in Russian, Latvian, and English.

Jean Leow - Boston, MA - Jean was a Senior Associate at TSG-Partners, a boutique M&A advisory/ corporate strategy firm, primarily focused on Biotech and Nutraceuticals. She brings with her sell-side and buy-side experience, and has helped companies with both strategic buyout and capital investment deals. Jean has more than 10 years of experience in the healthcare sector, working for leading multi-nationals such as Sanofi-Aventis (pharmaceuticals) and Bracco (medical imaging). Jean possesses an MBA from Hult International Business School in Cambridge, and a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy. She is currently working on getting her Series 7 & 63 licenses, and is taking a post-graduate course at Harvard, specializing in the area of Mergers and Acquisitions.
